"Cast me not off in the time of old age, forsake me not when my strength faileth" Psalm 71:9 |
August NewsLetter Dear Friends & Family, Aug 5 Cedar Hills- The service was great today! We sang songs about heaven and David preached on what our heavenly bodies will be like. Its so exciting. I announced a project for the residents. The project is writing to our soldiers still in Iraq. For the ones who can write letters I told the residents I would collect them next week. It makes them feel important and that they can do something from the confinement of a nursing home. Debbie came in after the service was over and I got to speak to her and asked her about her salvation. She would testify in the services time and time again about how she was an agnostic and then she had a car accident in which she was dead as she says and she saw the light at the end of the tunnel and testifies of the Lord. I asked her if she was saved and went through the plan of salvation and she said yes. I said you be saved because of what Jesus did on the cross and not because you saw that light and she replied it wasn't because of the light. I'm very thankful because I didn't know for sure if Debbie was born again. Debbie is not elderly. There are quiet a few younger people in to nursing homes due to strokes or accidents. Another resident, Harriet Cooney has a hobby, she makes Christian coasters out of plastic canvas and yarn sells them for $15, I have mine on order. If anyone else would like to purchase one, let me know and we can place an order for you. Harriet told me today she has 25 orders to fill, this makes her feel happy and productive and is something she can do while in the nursing home and earn some money too. There is another lady, Melda, she in elderly and has written poetry and had it published in a small paperback book, we also bought one of those (again if you would like to purchase one just let us know). I think Melda was moved upstairs and we haven't seen her much. Aug 7 Alterra- David had training. Me and sister Betty were there to sing and encourage the residents. Normally we don't get a lot of response from this assisted care facility. Today, however we did. We stated services with just two people there. After we started singing there we a total of 5 people, which in still less the normal. Two of the five requested songs out of the book. I read a devotional and we had more singing and between the songs sister Betty and I encouraged through residents and we both got a blessing. There were 3 new people that we met, Charles Bryant, Parkinson's, Oscar who had been before but I wasn't there when he came, and Virginia, I think she is 84yrs old. Sister Betty and I got a real blessing today. I'm so thankful she could go with me today. I appreciate it so much!! Cedar Hills- Today we had a nice service. Sis. Teresa came today and was a big help and blessing! I appreciate all people that come to help us. I think the residents sometimes get tired of seeing the same old faces, me and David. When others come they be excitedly and look for them to come next time, if they don't show up they always ask about them and hope they come back. Life Care Center- We had a nice service today. We celebrated Mr. Watkins 100th birthday. We gave him the Welcome Home picture to hang on his wall. And also a large print of Ephesians, Philippians' and Galatians'. He was very happy and honored. Cedar Hills- We Had a good service even though I forgot to bring David's guitar. The devil always tries his best to disrupt the services, but we carry on and don't let him. After the service, Mary Priester motioned for me to come over to her. Mary is the one I led to the Lord She had a stroke and can't speak. The therapist there are not working with her so its hard to communicate with her. I couldn't understand her and she and I both got frustrated. She can't write enter. Please pray that God will intervene to help In Christ, Pat, David & Rachel Sounds of Joy Ministries Ministry Family 446 Halsema Rd. N. Jacksonville, Fla. 32220 |
