THE RESCUE
I) INTRODUCTION: To have a successful rescue you must have:
- A victim (Rescued) The deliverance from danger by way of an agent.
- An intercessor (Rescuer) One that rescues or re-takes
- An Action (Rescuing) Liberating from restraint or danger
II) The NECESSITY of a Rescue (3 steps; Victim/Intercessor/Action)
- Peter - Walking on the water - Jesus/ made provision
- Paul - Attacked by the Mob- Captain of the Army/ made provision
- Philippine Missionaries - Held captive by terrorists - U.S. Special Forces
III) RESPONSES toward a Rescue/Rescuer- Decision Making Finality
- Example of Motorists - Lake City Tragedy
- There are Life Circumstances- Smoke filled highway's of life can become smoke filled, our vision is blurred. (Priorities obscured)
- There is Personal Responsibility - Rescuer frantically trying to capture motorist's attention
- There will be Free Will Exercised - Failure to stop and acknowledge, or even heed/or to heed to the rescue (lifesaving victim)!
- There is a Final Demise - Tragedy/safe execution
IV) SINNERS RESCUE- (3 Steps: Victim/Intercessor/Action)
- Life's Circumstances: Victim - We are sinners; for all have sinned!!!
- Sin of Adam - It is inherited
- Adam - (Rom 5:12) Universal, plunged the whole human race into condemned state.
- Sin's of Self - It is Inbred
- Romans 7 - Unable to lead a life of perfection and true holiness
- The Rescue
- There must be a rescuer (Intercessor; Jesus Christ) - The sin of man (in Adam) and the intercessory work of Jesus are both universal!
- Acts 4:12 - Neither is there salvation in any other...
- II Cor 5:21 - For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
- We must call out (Action) to be rescued
- Peter's Dilemma- Matt 14:30 - Lord Save me!
- Our dilemma- Rom 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
- Mark 10:48: (Blind Bartimaeus) Son of David, have mercy on me.
- The crowd's response: He should hold his peace (Be quiet)
- Jesus' response: Stood still; commanded him to rise and be of good comfort; Bartimaeus cast of his garment (of faithlessness) and came to Jesus the great Physician!!!!
- LK 15:21 - (The Prodigal Son) And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
- Have you (the Prodigal Son) returned unto the Father.
- He has his arms open wide/accept the rescuer (Jesus) tonight!!!!
