"Cast me not off in the time of old age, forsake me not when my strength faileth" Psalm 71:9 |
PAT'S TESTIMONY Attending a Baptist church as a child, I walked the aisle at altar call, not really understanding the true meaning of Salvation. I was asked, “Do you want Jesus to come into your heart?” Like many others, what child didn't want that; so I walked in life with a false sense of eternal security for many years. God help us! I was then baptized, still ignorant of sin, repentance, and the true necessity of asking Jesus to save me.Married to David in August 1985, I remember David saying to me that we needed to go to church and in October 1987 we went to a small Baptist church in Spring Valley, CA. On October 17, the preacher, from one of David's friend's Church, came to our apartment to visit us. The Pastor asked me about my salvation experiences and I shared my false childhood salvation experience with his discerning soul. As we talked, God impressed upon my spirit that I was lost and in need of a Savior. God's man presented to me, from God's Word, the necessity of repentance, and of the mercies found in God's love. The Pastor told me about sin and repentance and told me that Jesus had died on the cross for my sins, and that I needed to ask Jesus to save me! There, in our apartment at the age of 25, I prayed and ask Jesus to save me, and to be my Savior! In 1990 God blessed our love with our first child, Rachel. The residents love children and God uses Rachel in a tremendous way! Moving from duty station to duty station, with the Navy, we were privileged to start several Nursing Home Ministries, GA, TX, SC, and Guam. During our tenure's at various churches, God has us as Youth Directors, Sunday School Teachers, Soul Winners, Children's Ministries but primarily in establishing and sustaining that of Nursing Home Ministries! At the nursing home, located in Charleston SC; I recall their precious love for Jesus! One lady would bring her big red, KJV, Bible to every service and I think she was ministering to us! There was only one nursing home on the island of Guam, and it was Catholic. No other persons in the Baptist churches were able to get into St. Dominick's to minister. David, being in the military, told them that we were just going to sing so they allowed us to access their facility. God allowed many opportunities for us to present the plan of salvation in between our songs. God also used our Daughter, Rachel, to quote innumerous Bible passages by memory. Suffer not the little ones, to come unto Me! We have met some wonderful people, who remain confined within the nursing home walls. The dear precious people in the nursing homes need Jesus too! They starve and crave encouragement and physical contact from outside the walls of the nursing home! Most long for people, like me and you, to visit and talk with them and to tell them that they are loved. God help us for our shameful neglect of God's dear precious children. Day after day they are confined to the nursing homes, many lot of them have dementia, Alzheimer's, and just poor health. We can help! Praise God for our international missionary efforts; but, God help us if we fail to ensure that our most precious and beloved American citizens are not forgotten!
